The airport is 6 km from My Khe beach and 3.5 km from Han Market. Four hours reaches one museum, six hours the beach, and nine hours dinner plus the 21:00 bridge show at weekends. Baggage decides more than distance.

What decides a layover
Baggage decides it, not the map. The airport does not publish a left-luggage service that we could verify, so a stop with checked bags is a different proposition from a stop with a backpack.
Three ways to handle it: travel hand-luggage only, use a lounge with storage, or accept that four hours is a meal and a coffee. If a service is part of the plan, you can leave a suitcase or bag at our salon while it is done and take a Grab to the terminal from there.
Four hours
On paper: land, clear, 7 minutes to Han Market, 60,000₫ into the Cham Museum at 07:30–17:00, an hour there, and back. In practice, four hours with bags is a meal and a look at the river.
If you have no checked bags, the museum is real: 3.5 km, seven minutes, ninety minutes inside, and still twenty minutes of walking along the river before you go back.
Allow a third more time in the rain. The road to the airport holds water in the low spots, and ten minutes becomes twenty without warning.
Six hours
Six hours is the beach plan and it is the strongest of the three: 6.0 km to My Khe, ten minutes, no ticket, no closing time. Two hours on the sand, a shower at a hotel day pass or a beachfront café, and back.
The trade is a shower and a change of clothes. Without them, six hours of beach before a flight is a bad idea, and the airport has no facilities we could confirm.
The alternative six hours is Son Tra: 16.2 km to the pagoda, twenty minutes, a hilltop and a view rather than sand and salt. Less to carry afterwards.

| Hours | Plan | Fits if |
|---|---|---|
| 4 | River side, meal, maybe the museum | Hand luggage only |
| 6 | My Khe beach | You can shower somewhere |
| 9 | Beach, dinner, 21:00 bridge (Fri–Sun) | Late flight, no bags |
Nine hours
Nine hours is a whole evening plus a beach hour. Museum or beach in the afternoon, dinner on the river at 19:00, the bridge at 21:00 if it is Friday, Saturday or Sunday, and the airport by 22:00.
The bridge show is five minutes and the roads jam for twenty after it. Leave the riverbank on foot and call the car two streets away.
If your connection is at 01:00, the calculus changes: most of this city closes at 22:00 and you are better in the terminal than on a dark beach road.
Staying in the terminal
Da Nang's terminal is small, air-conditioned and has the usual cafés. For a two- or three-hour wait it is fine; for six it is not, which is the honest reason to leave.
Airport hotels exist around the terminal — Suggest shows people searching for them — and they are useful for an early departure, less so for a long connection you could spend at the beach.
We do not name any, because we have not stayed in them. The airport is 6 km from the beach; that is the fact that matters when you choose.
The transit details worth knowing
International and domestic terminals are separate buildings a short walk apart, and the walk is outdoors. If you are connecting between them, allow fifteen minutes for the walk alone, more with bags.
Check-in counters close before the flight in a way that surprises people used to larger airports: this terminal is small, but the queues at peak hours are not. Arrive with the margin your airline asks for, then add twenty minutes.
Money: the exchange counters are inside the terminal and the rates are what airport rates always are. Change a small amount for the ride and get the rest in the city.

Questions people ask
Can you leave Da Nang airport during a layover?
Yes — the airport is inside the city, 3.5 km from Han Market and 6 km from the beach. The constraint is baggage and immigration time, not distance.
How long does it take to get to the beach?
6.0 km, about ten minutes outside rush hour, and twenty in heavy rain.
Is four hours enough to see anything?
With hand luggage, a museum and a walk along the river. With checked bags, a meal.
Is there left luggage at the airport?
We could not verify one, so plan as if there is not.
How long does a Da Nang layover need to leave the airport?
Four hours with hand luggage, six if you want the beach. The airport is 6 km from My Khe, but baggage and immigration decide the real margin.
Can you visit Hoi An on a layover?
Not comfortably. Hoi An is 32.2 km south and about 30 minutes each way, which leaves too little for a 15:00 departure rule.
