February in Da Nang, and the Tet week

The driest month of the half-year and the week when half the city stops working.

Short answer

February averages 22 mm over 7 rain days, with 26.3°C by day and 20.4°C at night — the driest month of the first half of the year. In 2027 the Tet holiday runs 4–10 February, with lunar new year day on 6 February: expect small shops to close, and book the week around big sites instead.

What February is like

February is where the cool season settles. Rainfall is 22 mm over seven rain days, the average maximum climbs to 26.3°C and nights sit at 20.4°C — dry pavements, clear light, and the easiest walking of the first half of the year.

Compare it with January, 83 mm and 25.2°C, and with March, 36 mm and 28.4°C. February is the calm middle: drier than one, cooler than the other.

That is also why the month fills up. Visitors from Korea and Japan are still coming, and the domestic holiday traffic starts before Tet rather than after it.

Tet 2027, dated

The government has published the holiday: seven consecutive days from Thursday 4 February to Wednesday 10 February 2027, with lunar new year day on 6 February. That notice covers public employees; businesses set their own dates, and most close for a similar week.

Note what the table does not say: which restaurants are open. Nobody publishes that list, and we will not invent one. Ask your hotel two weeks ahead and again on the day.

What closes and what does not

Big, ticketed sites usually keep their hours: Ba Na Hills at 1,000,000₫ for an adult, the Cham Museum at 60,000₫, the Marble Mountains at 40,000₫. Their staff are rostered rather than self-employed.

What closes is the small layer: family restaurants, the favourite noodle shop, the tailor, the pharmacy on the corner. That layer is most of what makes the city feel lived in, which is why the Tet week feels different rather than merely quiet.

A plan that survives the week

The bridge show is the one fixed evening: 21:00 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. During the Tet week that covers 5, 6 and 7 February; the other four days are possible but not published, so treat them as a bonus.

If you are choosing between the two weeks either side, the weeks of 8–14 and 15–21 February are drier and fully open, at the cost of more visitors. The Tet week is quieter and cheaper in the small places that stay open.

Booking the two weeks either side

The weeks before Tet are busier than the week itself, because domestic visitors travel early and go home to eat. If you want the dry weather without the closures, aim for 8–21 February rather than 4–10.

Rooms: book the week before you fly rather than months ahead for the Tet week itself, because hotels release cancellations late and prices soften after the first of the month.

Tickets: Ba Na at 1,000,000₫ and the museums at 50,000–60,000₫ do not need weeks of notice, but the cable-car queue rewards an 08:00 arrival on every day of the week.

The little rain February gets

Seven rain days in 28 means most of your trip is dry, and the rain that comes is usually a short band rather than a wet day. An hour indoors is enough to let it pass.

If one does settle in, the museums are open and the Marble Mountains caves stay dry — which is why February is the easiest month to lose an afternoon and not notice.
