Da Nang in November: 486 mm, and how to plan around it

November is the second-wettest month of the year and the start of the busy season. Here is what that means for a four-day trip, and how to build a day that survives the rain.

Short answer

November averages 486 mm over 21 rain days, with 27.7°C by day and 22.5°C at night. It is wet but warm, and the rain comes in bursts rather than all day. Build each day around one indoor stop and keep the outdoor hours flexible, and November works.

What November is like

November sits at the end of the Vietnamese autumn, when the northeast monsoon starts to push moisture onto the central coast. In practice that means warm days, humid air and rain that arrives in long, heavy bands rather than the sharp afternoon storms of July.

The numbers are 486 mm across 21 rain days, with an average maximum of 27.7°C and a minimum of 22.5°C. Compare that with October: 658 mm and 29.6°C. November is slightly drier and slightly cooler than the month before, and both trends continue into December.

Read the rain-day column carefully: October, November and December all average 21 rain days, but the total rainfall falls from 658 to 486 to 272 mm. Same number of wet days, less water in each — which is why late November often feels easier than early October even though the calendar says it is still the wet season.

A day that survives November

The pattern that works is the rainy-day pattern from October: one indoor stop with fixed hours in the morning, a long lunch, and the outdoor hour whenever the sky opens. The Cham Museum runs 07:30–17:00 for 60,000₫ and the Da Nang Museum 08:00–17:00 for 50,000₫; both close before the light goes.

The Marble Mountains are the outdoor option that still works in light rain: the caves stay dry, and the lift is 15,000₫ one way or 30,000₫ return. Skip the stairs on a wet day — polished marble is the one surface in the city that punishes a wet sole.

What to move, what to skip

Where to stay, and why rain makes it matter

In a dry month the two bases in Da Nang are interchangeable: the beach strip at My Khe and An Thuong, and the river side around the Han River. In November they are not. From the beach strip a wet afternoon means a Grab to everything, and the beach itself is the first thing the rain takes away.

The river side is the better November base, and it is a minority opinion worth acting on: the museums, Han Market and the Dragon Bridge are within walking distance, the covered shopfronts give you somewhere to stand when a band of rain arrives, and My Khe is 4.7 km away — six minutes — for the hours when the sky clears.

Whichever you pick, confirm two things when booking: that the room has air conditioning that runs at night (humidity, not heat, is the November problem) and that the hotel will hold bags after check-out. The second one matters if your flight leaves in the evening and the rain has cancelled your beach plan.

Questions people ask

Is November a good month for Da Nang?

It is warm and wet — 486 mm over 21 rain days — but the rain is bursty and the crowds have not arrived yet. If you accept one indoor day in four, November is a reasonable month.

Can you swim in November?

The air is 27.7°C by day, which is comfortable, but check the flags: swell and runoff after heavy rain close the water more often in November than in July.

How much does it rain in a day?

486 mm over 21 rain days works out at about 23 mm on a day it rains — a soaking, not a flood, and rarely all day.

Is November cheaper than December?

We do not publish prices we cannot check. What is observable is the pattern: December is the peak fortnight for visitors from colder countries, and November is quieter for the first three weeks.
