What March is like
March is the hinge between the wet season and the heat. Rainfall drops to 36 mm over seven rain days, the average maximum reaches 28.4°C, and the nights sit at 22.1°C — warm enough to eat outside, cool enough to sleep with the window open.
Compare it with what comes next: April 30.9°C, May 33.4°C, June 34.9°C. March is the last month when a 14:00 walk is a choice rather than a mistake.
It is also a low-rain month without being a low-season month: visitors from Korea and Japan are still arriving, and the Vietnamese school holidays have not started.

|---|---|---|
| 06:30–08:00 | My Khe before the sun is high | No ticket |
| 08:00–09:30 | Cham Museum (opens 07:30) | 60,000₫ |
| 10:00–12:00 | Marble Mountains while it is still 28°C | 40,000₫ + lift |
| 12:00–15:00 | Lunch and a slow hour | — |
| 16:00–18:30 | Beach, or Hoi An at 15:00 (32.2 km) | — |
| 21:00 | Dragon Bridge, Fri–Sun | No ticket |
The plan looks obvious written down, and it is the one most people get wrong: they sleep through the two hours when the city is at its calmest and then queue at 11:00.
By 11:00 in March the stone is warm and the terraces at the Marble Mountains hold the heat. That is the hour to be indoors or in water, not the hour to start.
Ba Na and the sea
Ba Na is 31.8 km west, about 29 minutes, opens at 08:00 and costs 1,000,000₫ for an adult from outside Da Nang. In March the cloud sits lower in the morning than in April, so the earlier you go the better the bridge looks.
The sea in March is at its most usable of the dry months: the air is 28.4°C, the flags are down more often than in August, and My Khe is 4.7 km from Han Market, six minutes.
One caution that is not about weather: March is when the sun starts to matter. Twenty minutes unprotected at noon is a red shoulder that ruins two evenings.
Who March suits
- Travellers who want to walk: dry pavements, 28°C, and shade that still works.
- Families: the beach and the museums both work without a weather plan.
- Anyone who wants Ba Na with a view: the cloud is the risk, not rain.
It suits less well if you want the full tropical-heat holiday: the sea is warm but the air is still 28°C, not 34°C, and the evenings are cool enough for a layer.
And it is the month to book early, quietly: no holiday demand, but plenty of visitors who worked out the same thing you did.
Evenings, and what to book
March evenings are the pleasantest of the first half of the year: 22.1°C, a breeze off the river, and no need for a jacket unless you are on a motorbike. That makes the riverfront walk worth planning rather than incidental.
What to book early: nothing urgent, except the two things that always run out — a room on the beach strip for a weekend, and the Ba Na cable car slot you want. Neither needs weeks, both need planning.
The Dragon Bridge show runs at 21:00 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday in March like any other month, and 22°C is the temperature at which standing on a riverbank for five minutes is a pleasure.
The little rain March does get
Seven rain days in 31 means most days are dry, and the rain that comes is usually a short afternoon band rather than the long October kind. An hour indoors is enough to let it pass.
If one does settle in, the museums are open and the Marble Mountains caves stay dry, which makes March the easiest month in which to lose an afternoon and not notice.
