What the list actually says
Lonely Planet's "Best in Travel 2027" names 50 places to visit. Danang is one of them, spelled the way the magazine spells it, and the summary is short: a city in the centre of the country with mountains, a long city beach and a relaxed feel, where the Son Tra peninsula offers quiet and coastal views.
The line worth acting on is the one about day trips: three UNESCO-listed sites within reach — the tombs and temples of Hue, the Cham towers at My Son, and Hoi An. That is a description of a base, not of an itinerary, which is why the practical question is how to fit three day trips around one city.

Three UNESCO sites does not mean three days of UNESCO. Pick two: Hoi An as an evening, and one of My Son or Hue as a morning-to-afternoon. Doing all three in five days leaves you with a list of places you have seen and none you remember.
A three-day shape that covers what they highlighted
Day 1: the city beach and the river — My Khe from 16:30, Han Market, the Dragon Bridge at 21:00 if it is Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Day 2: Hoi An, leaving at 15:00 so you get the lanterns. Day 3: My Son at 06:30 or Ba Na Hills at 07:00 — one, not both.
If you have a fourth day, add Hue or a rest day, and if you have five, add both. The error the list invites is trying to see the three UNESCO sites plus the mountain plus the beach inside four days, which is a driving holiday with photographs.
When to come in 2027
The weather does not care about a list. March to August is the dry half, with June the hottest at 34.9°C and August the wettest of the five at 167 mm. September to December is the rainy season: 394 mm in September rising to 658 in October.
If you are coming because of the list, come in the dry half and book early: a place on a year-ahead list tends to fill the following year's high season before the year starts.
The one thing we would not do is rearrange a trip around an announcement. The city is the same city it was before the list; the difference is that more people will read about it, and the quiet version of Da Nang — 07:00 on My Khe, Hoi An at dusk — will be slightly busier.
